Sakura Foundation stands with the Black community and raises its voice in support of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement.  We collectively grieve the loss of life, hardship and discrimination that has been occurring disproportionately in the Black community for centuries.

We know all too well the damage that is done when history and compassion are negated and systemic racism is tolerated and unchallenged.  There is no place in our world for intolerance, inequality and hatred.

Racism is real.  Racism causes harm.  Racism must be confronted and changed.

We can all take action in this fight for equality.  There are many paths to supporting the BLM movement and improving our community.  Whether it’s marching alongside our Black brothers and sisters, making a donation to an organization whose mission supports BLM, talking with our family members about racism, educating ourselves through books and documentaries, voting for candidates who support equality or just simply doing an act of kindness – we can all make a difference in meaningful ways.  We will not be complicit in silence and stand by as Black members of our community suffer brutality and hate stemming from generations of entrenched racism that pervades the fabric of our daily lives.

Many resources are available to better understand how we got here and what we can do to fight for equality.  Hard conversations will likely take place, but they will be accompanied by opportunities for growth and connection.

We are stronger together.
Let’s open our minds and hearts and work toward change together.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
